The Bear Box Project
Go Here

An unusual number of new people to our program this weekend!  Let's hope we see more of these folks in the near future.

The weekend was highlighted by the collection and transportation of 150 bear boxes from Dorst Campground in Sequoia National Park to Huntington Lake's USFS facility, Kokanee Work Center where they will be examined and repaired for dispersion to Rancheriea campground and other campgrounds in the Huntington area.

The other "highlight" was the unusual amount of rain we had.  For only the second time in the program's 10-year history, we had appreciable rain in summer months (October, March and April do not count) in the form of late afternoon thunderstorms.

And, last but not least, Tom and Jill celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary with us!!  We're honored!

Lining up for breakfast on Saturday morning.

Scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and bacon, toasted bagels, orange juice, fresh coffee... life is rough!

Making lunch to take on the trail; peanut butter-and-jelly, lunch meat, cookies, snack bars and fresh fruit.

Carolyn, from Fresno, on her first trip, got soaking drenched on the trail, but laughed it off and says she'll be back!  What a trooper!

Gail, also from Fresno, and Carolyn's friend also on her first trip, trying to get warm.

The creek right behind our main staging area had been stocked right before we showed up.  The planters, however, were considerably larger than this...

Ahh...  MUCH better!

Gloria and her brood (and one child's friend) from Tulare display their catch...and dirty hands!

We took a few portraits on this trip, and caught Peter and his wife Jennifer.

Although Peter is a long-time volunteer, Jennifer had never been on a trip until now.

Tom and his wife Jill, also a newcomer with longtime volunteer-husband Tom celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary with us!!
